Compact: Jeep Compass

The Compass is the smallest Jeep SUV and still seats five with 973 mm of rear legroom and 978 mm of rear headroom. Behind the rear seat it holds 800 L, and folding that seat opens 1,700 L. The cargo hold is 691 mm tall and 1,069 mm at its widest point, so a stroller or a hockey bag slides in flat. Its 2.0L turbo I4 makes 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, and every trim, including the off-road Trailhawk, is rated to tow 2,000 lbs (907 kg).

Midsize Two-Row: Cherokee, Recon, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler

The all-new Cherokee moves into fifth on the cargo list with 952.1 L behind the rear seat and 1,935 L folded, a 30 percent increase in cargo capacity over the previous Cherokee. Passengers get 1,050 mm of front legroom, 977 mm in the rear and 1,022 mm of rear headroom without the panoramic sunroof. Its 1.6L turbo-four hybrid returns an estimated fuel economy rating as low as 6.4 L/100 km and up to 800 kilometres on a tank, and it tows 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg).

The Recon is the electric member of the group. It seats five with 977 mm of rear legroom and 1,030 mm of rear headroom, and it splits storage between an 858 L rear hold and an 84.9 L front trunk. Fold the rear seat and the main area grows to 1,866 L. Ground clearance is 232 mm, and it tows 3,300 lbs (1,496 kg).

The Grand Cherokee holds the most behind its rear seat of any two-row Jeep at 1,067.5 L, with 2,004.8 L folded and 971 mm of rear legroom. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 is standard on Laredo trims, and the 2.0L Hurricane 4 turbo with 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft is standard from Laredo Altitude up. Towing is rated at 6,200 lbs (2,818 kg) with either engine.

The Wrangler 4-door ranks third overall on maximum cargo with 2,050.1 L, ahead of the Grand Cherokee, thanks to a tall, square hold that opens 942.3 mm high at the liftgate. With the rear seat up it holds 897.6 L. Rear legroom is 974 mm, and rear headroom reaches 1,023 mm with the hardtop or 1,059 mm with the soft-top. The 4-door Rubicon with the automatic and 4.10 axle tows 5,000 lbs (2,267 kg); other 4-door trims are rated at 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg).

Three-Row: Grand Cherokee L and Grand Wagoneer

The Grand Cherokee L seats six with second-row bucket seats or seven with the optional 60/40 bench. Second-row legroom is 1,000 mm and the third row offers 770 mm. It holds 487 L behind the third row, 1,328 L behind the second and 2,395.6 L with both rows folded. Towing is rated at 6,200 lbs (2,818 kg) with the 3.6L Pentastar V6.
